Cliff Scaling in the Peaks

This historic hillside village, a ancient white village in southern Spain, about 45 minutes’ drive from Granada, is the breathtaking setting for this painting holiday. Painters of all abilities – including beginners – will discover how to plan and create modern art. Some time will be spent in the open air, working on guided exercises out in nature. These initial sketches and paintings will then be expanded upon in the studio, with participants completing a number of abstract landscapes in acrylics to be shown in the village. Participants has sole use of the hotel, which is set around an open courtyard and has a sun terrace with panoramic vistas over the countryside. The fee encompasses five days of painting tuition; full board; and an excursion to the local castle and other local sights.

Vegetarian Cooking in Portugal

This sun-drenched cooking retreat, set on a riverside villa in the central Algarve, is inspired by the vegetarian dishes of celebrated cooks. Attendees will learn to produce selection of small dishes, take part in a hands-on falafel session, perfect mid-morning meals such as shakshuka, and make hearty mains like a rich mushroom stew and moussaka. The schedule includes visits to the local market and a nearby winery to sample local vintages, plus leisure time for strolls by the Funcho River, to unwind on the terrace or swim in the pool. The accommodation, a former farmhouse, has multiple rooms, plus glamping tents in the gardens.

Street Dance in High Wycombe

This energetic camp is an uplifting, welcoming three-day dance intensive for adults in High Wycombe. The daily schedule each day is a party-style group warmup, then several 90-minute classes covering different urban dance forms, then an hour-long freestyle session to show off new moves. Dancers are split into groups based on skill level, so it is suitable for those who are completely new to popping and locking, all the way to advanced dancers or teachers. The camp does not provide lodging but there are several places to stay nearby, and it is under an hour by train into London.

Sea Shanty Weekend in St Ives

This coastal town is the excellent setting for a sea shanty weekend. Participants will be taught traditional shanties from a folk singer and vocal coach, and try their hand at writing their own. There will be voice exercises, breath control techniques, stagecraft advice and a closing performance. The holiday is based at a rural hotel with views of the bay. All meals are provided, such as a Cornish cream tea on arrival, breakfast options, packed lunches and three-course dinners. Grog, unfortunately, is not included. Creative Writing in Crete

Author and lecturer Greg Mosse leads the regular sessions on this writing retreat. He explores topics including plot, characters, setting and tension, to submitting work to publishers. Greg’s wife, the bestselling author Kate Mosse, will participate in events at the start and finish of the week. The holiday is based at a traditional complex in Vamos at the foot of the Lefka Ori – 10 private accommodations surround a garden and pool (companions are welcome to come along). On the final evening, aspiring writers celebrate with a concert in the garden and a final meal.

Beginners' Apiculture in Wales

A leading eco-centre near Machynlleth runs a wide range of courses on eco-living: from creating habitats to making pallet furniture. It is designed to produce “ecologically mindful beekeepers”. These new summer sailing weekends are spent on Wayfarers and keelboats on the Blackwater estuary. They are aimed at novice sailors starting out or more experienced mariners who want a skills update. There are non-residential and overnight options, with accommodation in basic shared rooms in the waterfront sailing school.
