A Ton of Anime Updates Landed Over the Holidays
The Yuletide season offer a wealth of pastimes considerably more enjoyable than scanning the headlines: unwrapping gifts, getting stuffed on holiday treats, and employing meditation skills to not yelling at relatives. Hopefully you were able to accomplish all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous thrilling news items surfaced over the festive period, and if you missed some of them, here is a summary of the biggest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Will Continue (Come 2027)
Without a doubt the most surprising piece of news, the widely-criticized controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to stop more episodes. The show will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—such a distant date they might as well have labeled it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be at the helm. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which might be a hopeful indicator. Yet, the key visual for the new episodes is identical to the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This suggests that, at this point, they could be teasing the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a reputation for being an elite animation studio, making its mark not just for the high caliber of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not produced an anime stemming from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it came back with a lighter schedule, the series proved it still retained the fans' support and enthusiasm, and now everyone is ecstatic about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Season 6 Has a Sequel Now in the Works
Kingdom is the top-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only recently got an English localization, but the anime has been airing for some time, and its sixth season was another stellar entry. Apparently that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been announced as in production, and it will probably premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
One more studio known for the excellent quality of its projects, Science Saru has delivered masterpieces of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the actual historical person of Fatima, an powerful woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my list of anticipated shows.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Second Season
Immediately following the airing of the final episode of the first season, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be securing a follow-up. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete release date has not yet been announced.
