Brandon Thomas-Asante netted twice before the break as Coventry eased to a five-goal win at struggling the home team, putting them in first place of the league for at least a short period. Owls fans again demonstrated against the club leadership of Dejphon Chansiri.

Rapid Opening for Visitors

The away team started on the front foot when Thomas-Asante slotted home from nearby in the early stages after the Owls defence could not clear a corner.

Play was halted after ten minutes of play when a contingent of Owls fans ran onto the field to protest against Chansiri, following the news that player salaries had been postponed for the fifth occasion in the past seven months.

Relentless Attack

The Sky Blues kept up the pressure and it bore fruit when a Wednesday defender was lost the ball and the Coventry striker capitalized with a fine low finish into the opposite side from the 18-yard line.

The Wednesday goalkeeper produced a fine stop towards the close of the opening 45 to prevent a third for the visitors, reacting quickly to parry a near-post attempt from Ephron Mason-Clark, who had got on the end of a drilled pass from his teammate. The relief did not last long, however, as the away side made it three in added time of the first period.

A Coventry midfielder floated the ball into the area, it was nodded down by Thomas-Asante and Bobby Thomas’s far-post header was on its way in, but Haji Wright got the final touch from point-blank range. It looked to be offside and there were vehement appeals from the home side, but the match official dismissed the appeals.

Further Goals

The substitute Ellis Simms made it four after the 68th minute when he slotted a teammate's low cross into the net after being left free at the back post. Subsequently, another Coventry player rounded off the scoring, hammering home after the defence could not clear a set-piece, as the visitors continued their unbeaten streak to nine matches.

Additional Fixtures

Harrison Burrows saw his penalty saved for beleaguered Sheffield United as the Tigers claimed their third victory of the season, emerging 1-0 victors at the MKM Stadium. A Hull attacker put the Tigers ahead after the half-hour mark before a United midfielder hit the upright.

The home side sat on their lead for much of the second half and Hamer was kept out on more than one occasion before the Hull goalkeeper made a crucial save when he stopped the feeble attempt.

Augustus Kargbo scored his first goal for Rovers to earn a 1-1 tie against the Potters. The Blackburn team looked set for a defeat after Million Manhoef put Stoke ahead in the latter period. But Rovers fought back and Kargbo, who had come under fire for his involvement in a previous goal, fired home an equalizer from close range.

Kargbo hit the post before the conclusion as Blackburn nearly snatched a late win, but they will be thankful to have earned a merited draw. By contrast, Mark Robins will wonder how his team squandered their control of the game and they are now without a win in four league matches.

Previous Fixture

In the weekend's first match, the Red Dragons drew 1-1 for the third time in a row against the Blues, causing the coach to remark that his team is adapting to the league. George Dobson headed the opener inside 13 minutes, but Patrick Roberts equalised for Birmingham within half a minute of the restart.
