It has been confirmed that original stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear once again in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.

A Major Reunion for Fans

The duo are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Speculation suggests their appearance will likely occur in a future-set scene, given that the main film series concluded with their characters living in peace.

This represents the sixth installment in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise.

Exploring the New Story

Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a recent book by series creator Suzanne Collins. It serves as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Returning to the director's chair is Francis Lawrence, who was behind most of the previous films in the series.

The film's events are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is portrayed as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.

• Ralph Fiennes is cast as a earlier incarnation of the menacing President Snow.
