First-choice XI

The goalkeeper Was rarely tested to perform during the opening 45 until forced to intervene from an opponent's curling effort. His sliding challenge on an Albanian attacker demonstrated excellent game intelligence. 6/10

The debutant Tested by Albania’s primary attacker in their forward. Started in a central role to begin with later drifted to the flank after Saka came on. 7

John Stones Moved up the pitch on the ball, as he has done in the past. On occasion seemed hesitant on the ball and the experiment was shelved by the interval. 6

The tall defender A nuisance from dead balls, typically, but may be another option for Stones at the back instead of paired with him. A careless pass later in the match nearly resulted in a goal from Albania. Six

Nico O’Reilly A further assured performance by the youngster after his first cap against another side. A teammate was unable to take the most of a clever backheel behind the opposing backline. The role looks secure at this stage. 7

Adam Wharton His maiden beginning in an England shirt. A bit sloppy on the ball however his whipped corners posed a danger. A handy pace-controller for the manager to utilize against teams who drop deep. Booked after a reckless foul. 6

The midfielder Crosses on corner kicks and set-plays caused problems. Was given room to roam down the left flank but was in an offside position upon receiving in front of goal. Given a merited substitution on the hour mark. 6/10

The star midfielder Played in a forward spot down the right and put in defensive duties. Demonstrated glimpses of brilliance and scuffed a shot high. Withdrawn in the closing stages by Rogers, his competition, following a yellow card. Seven

Jarrod Bowen Had the team's top opening of the first half, his effort smartly stopped from the Albanian keeper. As Quansah holding position, he was forced to offer an outlet out wide although his balls into the box were inconsistent. Replaced with 15 to go. 6

Harry Kane The decisive figure scoring 77th and 78th goals in an England shirt. His first a trademark opportunist's goal and his next a superb headed goal having drifted away away from the opposition. Now 32, his form is unwavering and the side are strong contenders next summer with him up top. 8

The attacker Found it tough to make an impact out wide. Was presented with a decent opportunity following a pass by the midfielder yet Strakosha made the save. His replacement made much more of effect when substituted. 5
