Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's natural for questions to be raised about his future after a further convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in 12 games, representing the club's worst streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got plenty of backing from above,” the coach commented.
“It's important to change things and earn three points obviously but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I accept my position. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Club Management
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “Through standard exchanges I sense the trust. However I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over familiar failings from his squad in their European loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a spell such as this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones finished, “However we still have the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”
“We will attempt to get this team return to its rightful place, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
