The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Intense Debates Over Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers launched a fresh playlist called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes a few notable changes:

  • Every squad includes only eight real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions performed by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist delivers on its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it gives additional choices for gamers looking for alternative ways to enjoy the game. But, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are upset.

Community Reactions: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and another lists everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this game 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states another. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Player Input

Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times even longer for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was meant to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the community compromising in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?

If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to player input. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
