The network's Top New Show of 2025 Secures a Substantial Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. During a period often characterized by dark humor, this show's sincerity struck a chord and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

Network Praise

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who found the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about observing this lovable family go about their everyday routines.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to evolve comedy past its prevailing sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well help usher in that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to experience the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
