This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the identical stature as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life free from concern.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, donated by a local firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The trend became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the character of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
